An Ode to Daniel Rector, on the eve of his being cast as a vampire

There are two hats
that sit, in turns, atop mussed blonde hair.
The one is brown with a ribbon trim
the other is grey with feathers,
but each protect a treasure
as priceless and elusive as the lost gold of cortez.
His brain whirls and flashes
electricity inside his head,
beneath any one of two fine hats,
and daily spins the drudgery of his life into gold
and daily dredges the melancholy rivers of his soul
for freshwater pearls of wisdom.

Traveling south,
following deep sunk eye socket valleys
and pale skinned nose ridge mountains,
even the steadiest of travelers is thrust
into rust colored brambles and handsome crimson briar.
The beard of Daniel Rector
sits proudly and defiantly it does not hide it's divergent hue
from the ashen hairs above.

Everyone always laughs at what he orders to drink,
but with two bearded lips sipping two straws
sucking his shirley temple from a tall glass
his honest and unapologetic nature
not only glints brightest in a world filled with impostors,
but inspires the peace of mind and clarity that only comes
in the company of buddhists and saints.

(1) Helen Mirren is amazing (shown here in RSC's Antony & Cleopatra, please dig the beautiful crimp job)
(2) In Honor of the 2012 London Olympics, theatre companies from around the world are invited to perform at the Globe.  There're doing the cannon in 6 weeks and each in a different language.

"His plays have been translated into every major living language and there is a long tradition of Shakespeare performances around the world in people's own vernacular."
"During the course of these six weeks, the Globe will create an international Shakespeare community in the heart of London."
